French funk devotees Acts of Sedition continued their penchant for double-dropping 7"s with 'Femmes Fatale' last year, and it has been so addictive that this reissue has been rightly sanctioned. The record revisits a clutch of disco and soul cuts through the lens of a set of shadowy collaborators. It opens with Betty Crutcher's 'Sleepy People (Old Chap Alteration),' a swooning rework awash with aching strings and crisp, funk-laced drums. Gwen McCrae's 'Move Me Baby (SanFran Disko Transformation)' follows with a more propulsive, uplifting energy, while The Sisters Love's 'Give Me Your Love (Fingerman Remodel)' drifts into a blissed-out, cinematic fusion of soul and disco. Closing the set, Clydie King's 'Punish Me (Bully Boy Makeover)' leans into something rawer and more visceral with commanding horns pushing to the fore. Underground female vocals for collectors.
